In reply to anxiety - and Taurine, posted by jerryjohn on May 25, 2010, at 13:20:25
I was on a benzo, Ativan, for many years. It was the only thing that helped my panic and social anxiety to a great degree, so much so that I felt wonderful whenever I took it. Eventually, I developed a tolerance to it. Today, I don't take Ativan anymore.
I have used Taurine on and off, but don't think I require it to control my anxiety. It's great to hear you found something that helps you. Taurine is actually very healthy for your brain and heart. I remember the herb Kava Kava helped me with my anxiety. I actually liked how it made me feel. However, it's not a wise idea to take it if you are taking antidepressants. But it did help me before I went on medication. The only thing I didn't like about the Kava Kava is that the effect would wear off in the middle of the day. So I thought, just take more later in the day. Well, this didn't work. I was taking Kava Kava for many months and it did a nice job. It didn't solve my social anxiety, however, but it did make my life a little more bearable. I don't know how to rate Kava Kava with Taurine because everyone responds differently to any one supplement. I know personally that Taurine can help with anxiety, much better than GABA supplements which I think are useless. I also had some success with using Glycine supplements, around 3 grams per day. It did help with anxiety, but I don't know if you'd like it or not. I think the Taurine is probably better. Glycine might help you, and I know that it has helped some people with schizophrenia. Thanks for posting. Good to hear something gives you some relief.
