I have always been this way too. I have no idea about the amount of Delta-wave sleep and how it relates to this, but i feel pretty certain that a major factor is the act of sleeping in late (past when the more-or-less normal wake-up time is). I've noticed also that (if i'm not already sleep deprived) if/when i wake up earlier, i'll actually feel better and have more energy. And further i've found that if/when i've gone to sleep early and still slept a long time, but didn't sleep in very late, i won't wake up with that super-lethargic feeling like i do when i sleep in really late.
I do not know the underlying reasons for all this, other than that the simple obvious fact that it affects our circadian rhythms in one way or another.> I have noticed that on weekends when I sleep especially hard and for a long time, I wake up foggy headed and have more anxiety..
