Not sure if this will help
http://tealady-health.blog.co.uk/2006/06/25/b1_and_calcium_magnesium~911386also lots on B1.. click on the B1 tag on right hand side of page
Really depleted B1 will cause huge weight loss .. even death (happens in Asia still with eating white rice too much in diet), and proabably also a cause of death in the babies there.
B1 is delpeted (but not to the extent above) from eating too much high carb food.. like bread, white rice. Its added into white flour and even ,if recalled correctly, white rice in the US and Canada, so it shouldnt be the same problem as in other parts of the world for most here.. still the more carbs the more B1 you use up, and it appears maybe enough is not added to compenstae. it is also lost easily in processing to some extent.
So basically overeating or undereating , by eating a diet in mostly whote rice will cause B1 deficiency..also alcohol etc
I injected B1 for over 18 mths and that made a huge diff to me. Stopped a few months ago, it's something that a few people I've heard have needed to do. Taking the multis didnt work or just the tablets in 200mg at a time had only a sloght effect, bit better with sublinguals.. but a real diff with injections. There can be a B1 absorption problem and its a catch 22.. low B1 leads to poor absorption..so maybe the needle broke the bottleneck eventually.
Its why many feel better on a protein and veges diet with a few nuts..this doesnt deplete the B1, so eating salads and a little meat and nuts or protein, and cooked veges, but leaving the rest out should work too...(doesnt deplete B1)
