The article did not say otherwise.

The "doctor" anecdote indicated that the doc
was mad at the author because of the percieved
too-obviousness and simplicity of the
suggested remedy. The doc did not denounce
the author's claims; he was angry about them
being expressed the way they were. In effect,
he was angry at his own profession for
overlooking the obvious.

Right. The author of that article emphasized
magnesium perhaps too much. Still, if it IS an
important factor in some (most?) depressions,
then it should be used MUCH more widely than
it is, currently. Hence his "over-emphasis"
is at least understandable, perhaps forgiveable.

That's interesting. You sure it was the mag?
Generally speaking, magnesium does not get
absorbed fast enough for acute effects. The
effects usually develop over months and years.

Total and complete agreement, here.

Why isn't magnesium more widely used?

One problem with it is that it is so slow to
replete body reserves. Absorption is limited;
if you take even a little too much, you get
loose stools or even diarrhea, and have to back
off. As a result, it can take months or even
years to get your system fully magnesium-replete.
And as a result of that, most people do not take
it nearly long enough to get the benefits. You
can get around this with IV injections, but that
requires the cooperation of a doc, and would be
expensive.

This guy claims to get RAPID results with
magnesium taurate. Is it possible that this
particular form of mag is better-absorbed,
with less or no diarrhea, than other forms?
Maybe.

He also mentions that co-administered arginine
further cuts the diarrhea (and apparently enhances
mag absorption). Interesting idea.

I thought it a very worthwhile article.

Comments, anyone?
