In reply to 5 HTP Is it True It's better Than an SSRI without, posted by Phillipa on May 6, 2007, at 20:49:46
Hi Jan,
I've tried 5-HTP and it may be promising. It tends to give me a stomach ache and cause a bit of teeth grinding when I sleep. S-ame is much worse though. I'm stll tinkering with both.
I'm currently taking inderal for high blood pressure and one of the side effects is vivid nightmares. and that's for real. But 5-HTP, S-ame, and St John's Wort temper the nightmare effect. I'm not sure yet which is best.
5-HTP gives me a stomach ache, S-ame causes almost supernatural teeth-grinding, and St John's Wort is sort of an inbred cousin.
Heavy doses of S-ame create a kind of delirum where I was grinding my teeth yet couldn't quite wake up. 5-HTP tempered the nightmares without the jaw clenching so I'm hopeful. (just the stomach ache bit)
I guess I'm trying to say this sort of stuff can work. All three will stop my inderal-induced nightmares - even delirum. I think 5-HTP is the most promising. Just looking for a formula that doesn't upset my stomach.
