I use it for treating depression.
What I have noticed is that it improves mental clarity, energy level and blood circulation (without worsening rashes or causing hypotension).Side effects that I have noticed at too high doses are fatigue/lethargy, muscle weakness, insomnia and increased sweating.
MSM can be a complicated supplement since the dosage range seems to be extremely wide. Each user has to find out their own optimal dose. Anything from 100mg and 20 gram. Most MSM-sites recommend somewhere between 1-6 gram.
Sometimes it can take several months to reach higher doses due initial side effects like fatigue. For me the upper limit seems to be around 3 gram since higher doses causes insomnia and fatigue.
