Oh, that's great, Scott. I too am waiting for the results of my test, so we can keep each other informed. My symptoms did not jibe with pyroluria, but my deceased father could have been a card-carying poster child for it so my naturopath thought it would be worth a try.
You probably won't find any knowledge or support from your psychopharmacologist for this branch of psychiatry, and in fact, he/she may scoff at it. It would be more under the auspices of orthmomolecular medicine and those two strands do not usually even nod to each other. I would be shocked, in fact, if your psychopharmacologist ever heard of it (if he/she has, keep them!!), but do not let them talk you out of it, even if they tell you there are no 'clinical studies' in it (there actually are quite a few). But perhaps this doctor will be willing to explore a new and possibly effective path with you and you can learn together. But truly, if your test comes back positive, it's time to find someone who really knows what they're doing. Not the time to scrimp and save.
The Pfeiffer Institute pioneered all this, it all started with Dr. Carl Pfeiffer, and they're in Warrenville IL, so you might even be close to them. Wow, how great would that be. They specialize mainly in autism spectrum metabolic disorders, but handle all mood disorders, and would at least be able to refer you to someone:
You're very welcome, BTW. If this leads you down the path of healing, you have no idea how gratifying it will be for me. If not, then at least we tried, you discovered a whole huge new area of exploration (pyroluria is only a small part), and we formed a new friendship! - Barbara

I will also mention this to the physician I'll see on Wednesday. He's supposed to be cutting edge at least in psychopahrmacology in the city of Chicago. Hopefully he will know of this or be willing to take a stab at it nonetheless. This certainly seems like a fit, and what a wonderful thing if indeed it turned out to be accurate for my woes.
