Generally, 1 gram of EPA is a good dose to test if the stuff will help or not. Generally, with any brain med, you've got to give it 3-4 weeks to fully asses any benefit.

As far as the insomnia, and increased anxiety goes, these are pretty rare side effects.
It is possible, although highly unlikely, that a diet that is too high in fish oil and low in omega 6,s could create imballence of fats the other way, which could cause these side effects.

Make sure that you include other fats in your diet, such as nuts, olive oil, etc, and this is unlikely to occur.
Where this imballence would be likely to occur, is in people who began consuming only
fish oil, and eliminating other oils from the diet. Just give it a try, if you get side effects then reduce the dose. I am a strong believer that the omega 3's should be added to every diet, more for some and less for others.
