I liken Babble's waxing and waining to social networks like MySpace which was number one at one point and then dwindled with competition. Likewise, at least in my experience, participants in mental health support sites have a peak investment commensurate with their attachment to the community. Yet there's only so much you can get out of cyber relationships that the real world won't eventually lure away. I'm not certain why Babble hasn't ebbed and flowed in waves of activity bolstered by new participants offering fresh personalities and needs.
