i would like to hear from Babblers, please not via bmail, as to their thoughts on policy in regards to personal safety outside of babble. i do not refer to safety in the way we generally refer to it here, as in feeling "safe" in therapy, meaning i am not referring to a sense of not being rejected. i am referring to safety within your real life environment, specifically physical safety. i do believe most of us would feel it was within reason to attempt to notify real life people if a poster was in physical danger of suicide... please correct me if i am wrong in that belief. (i am referring to a degree of certainty in that decision of the level of danger) Do you then feel the opposite rule of thumb should then apply? Meaning, it is within reason to expect action be taken at babble when a poster's real life safety is endangered by a post at babble?
i am trying to understand the relationship between a poster's real life environment and policy. Policy is sweeping, and should that be the case in my specific example? Can there not, and should there not be a means of determining otherwise?
i have been told that posters feelings are too variable to consider situations as mentioned. Do you babblers feel that there is little or no distinction between regret over saying too much for emotional reasons and regret over saying too much for personal safety reasons?
In crisis we should seek out real life people if at all possible. In emotional crisis which does not warrant intervention by such people, we often turn to online communities and friends. In a state of despair we often do not think clearly. Should mistakes regarding real life safety not be considered and weighed against policy? SHould safety not win out against policy?
Please help me understand this issue.
(to qualify somewhat, i would not expect all of babble to attempt to decipher the danger within a post. i would expect that communication to occur between the poster and administration alone, hopefully with understanding and attempts made by admin to understand the poster's request)
