Just wanted to mention… and I’m not sure how administrative this is…
I’ve been involved in several academic appointment committees. I would never decide against appointing my first choice candidate on the basis of the sorts of stuff I’ve seen posted on Babble – by you or anyone else.
I make decisions based on people’s qualifications, experience, and interview techniques. If you applied for a job in my department (assuming you were suitably qualified) and you did a good interview, and someone printed out everything you’d ever posted at Babble, I’d recommend hiring you for sure. And I don’t think I’m unusual. I want the best person for the job and I won’t hold their personal ramblings against them. As long as I can believe a person can be professional at work, I don’t give a flying f*ck how they handle their personal lives.
Don’t sell yourself short. You are intelligent, competent and capable. Nothing you have posted here should stand in the way of your career at a reputable institution.
Best wishes,
Tamar
