Lou,I'm not sure how I feel about the post you have brought attention to.
Two questions:
1. What is it about the post that you find personally offensive?
2. In your estimation, why might the post be unacceptable according to the rules of civility as practiced here?
A participant of Psycho-Babble has seemingly made a judgment regarding the state of education and understandings possessed my Tom Cruise, someone who does not participate on Psycho-Babble. To me, the way it was worded does seem to globalize his lackings, although the use of the word "ignorant" is not necessarily global according to some of its definitions. Given the context of its use in the post, I think many people will have interpreted it as Tom Cruise being ignorant of a particular topic, not that he himself is an ignoramous in general. Personally, I would have preferred that the wording be something more like, "Tom Cruise is ignorant of the foundations of modern psychiatric medicine and the science that supports it, yet still feels he possesses the expertise to judge and condemn it in its entirety."Two questions:
1. Do personally find my suggested wording offensive?
2. Regardless of how you feel about the content of my wording, do you feel it is acceptable under the guidelines of the forum? If not, what is it about my words that violate the rules of civility as it is practiced here?
Perhaps Tom Cruise deserves to be criticized, his education scrutinized, and his comptence as an expert judged. His actions have consequences. So do mine. So do yours.
