In reply to Dr. Bob's rules are way to strict, posted by mike13 on July 3, 2005, at 6:08:37
> I really don't even violate them alot, it's just ridiculous how careful you have to be not to offend someone, i hate it... this has got to be by far the strictest message board I've ever been on, dr., bob is probbly going to respond to this post with a "please by civil" thing, i had to have broken some rule during this rant
I definitely understand your frustrations. There are plenty of times that I'll write something and then erase it because I know exactly what the consenquence will be if I hit the submit button. hahaha!
But you would be surprised to know that there are plenty of other boards out there that are just as strict and some even more so. I'm part of an acoustic guitar forum and they are also quite strict on the type of content they will allow on the board. The guy who started the board decided he wanted it to be family friendly and won't allow certain types of posts or certain subjects to be discussed. In some ways that board is even more strict because the moderators will actually go into the post and edit out the offensive comments or just delete the post all together. They'll warn you about not doing it again and then if you don't stop, you're banned. But I love how there are no flame wars and I feel safe posting almost anything there.
Granted, these types of strict boards do sometimes feel constricting and a little too politically correct, but they've also forced me to think about what I want to say and to choose my words wisely. What I've been learning has even spilled over into my real life conversations with people. I'm much better at thinking before I speak. So in fact, my life as a whole has been improved because of the strictness of some boards online. Who would have thought?!
