Hi there Kara. I really appreciated your post. It expressed what I had on my mind about the issue, though in a very articulate and supportive way: I was impressed.
And now I read your other post, and I am reminded of a post I made a while back on 'the trouble with...'. I said that the trouble with idealisation is that it tends to lead to disillusionment and devaluation. Though, of course, that is the trouble with me. The trouble with my experience. Sigh.
