Even though the official birthday would be June 10, maybe the main activities should wait until the weekend? Which will be graduation here, we’re on quarters...

Michigan Ave is a nice walk (June means no falling ice cicles), the Chicago Botanical Gardens is gorgeous in June, and my favorite - The Cheesecake Factory in the base of the Hancock building. Most of these are a short "Red Line" ride from U-of-Chicagoland, which would introduce strangers to the el trains.
