What if you put all of the introductory text that normally goes above the boards, on a separate page that visitors to the site would see first before they could get to the rest of the site? (Maybe include your pictures on it.) That would make it more likely that visitors would read everything anyway (I imagine a lot of people just go directly to the posts the way it is now).
Among the other items, it could have a line saying, "If you prefer not to read language that may offend you, click here to activate the censorship option," (or words to that effect). And maybe have it so that even if they came to the site from a post listed on a search engine they'd still get that page first?
