Hi Shelli, Mair, KK, & of course, Dr Bob,

I thought about Shelli's question, and believe she has valid concerns about a situation like hers. Personally, I think I would have posted to the meds board, but I also think it should get a name change as soon as possible. Just call it "Meds." Then it will be fairly clear where to post if you have a question like Shelli's (the MAOIs in combo with the SSRIs) that needs immediate attention.

But, that's just me, I would probably take care of the "clinical" situation right off the bat, and then look for emotional support. But again, I can see Shelli's point, and I can very well imagine being confused about the boards right now. Someone who is feeling terrible, and is looking for answers, and looking for support, like she was, might not be able to cope with the fractured nature of the multiple boards that have sprung up like so many weeds. Who needs the added stress? And as I say, I can see that someone might give up, cuz there are too many options.

Newcomers will be able to understand a new name like "Meds" (right?), but more importantly, I think that's the "portal," so to speak, where anyone new to the site will enter the Psycho-Babble world. Typically, we plug a few terms into a search engine like Google, and we get hits on this (wonderful) site. It helped me so very much to be able to talk about meds with folks here, and I believe it nearly saved my life. But looking at the Psycho-Babble Statistics board -- and I recommend it to anyone reading this -- the number of posts to the medication board is much higher than any of the others, by far. So we may assume that medication issues are most often the reason for the initial contact by a new member.

But the fact that Shelli's question had not only to do with meds, but with a "social" issue such as the therapy dilemma, would indicate that she should post it to the "Social" board. Or, is it a "Psycho-Psycho Babble" question because it has to do with therapy.... She wants emotional support because of a difficult situation... but it's with her therapist. Someone like Shelli, a longtime poster says: now which is it? I mean, if we oldsters are still wondering what to do, doesn't this tell us something?

And I mean no disrespect, Bob, but please don't say: "Yes, but what does it tell us?" and then leave it at that...

I had never thought of a post that might include THREE different aspects to it, and therefore might be posted, with validity, on any of the three boards she mentions. It had never occurred to me. But now that she has brought it up, I think we should deal with (at the very least) changing the names of the boards to match the subject. How 'bout: Meds, Social, Therapy, Religion? I know, brilliant, right? But much easier to cope with if you're in a crisis...

Shelli might very well have to break up her discussion and post separate issues on seperate boards, but she shouldn't HAVE to in order to get the answers she needs. In this situation, it's great that Mair and KK so wonderfully replied that they were specifically looking out for her. That's a beautiful (and touching!) example of the kind of support that we can get from this site. Someone new might not be so lucky...

Shelli, I hope you feel better about this issue, and keep us posted (I know... but on which board???) on the meds and the therapy. I know what it is to feel abandoned by your shrink. They're supposed to help you heal. It can be a terrible blow...

With respect for you all,

Wendy
