Forgive me, but how can religious and spiritual matters NOT affect mental health? For some, as it has been strenuously argued for the past two weeks here, religion is the key to survival and coming to terms with mental illness. For others, it is a thorn in the side. But because our views differ--yes, for the very reason you state--discussions about religious and spiritual matters were given their own place.
Many people were tired of opening a post they thought would be about their problem only to find that it was really another religious parable. The things that you could find offensive would be right here among administrative posts, or on PSB among the regular chit chat (which, by the way, could be seen as less related to mental health than the faith board!).
Now that religious matters are no longer part of PSB, we know where to go for them when we want to discuss something pertaining to faith or religion. And we know where not to go when we don't or when we are offended by others' beliefs or lack of knowledge about a particular religion. We also know, however, that we can have differences of opinion as well as of experience, and a faith board is certainly the place to clear up any of the so-called mistakes made by fellow faith babblers. It may also be a place to enlighten those in their quest for comfortable spirituality.
