Although GABA doesn't pass the BBB too well, butyrate does. Gaba is also helpful for my cardiac anxiety. GABA circulates peripherally and can slow heart rate and blood pressure.

>Hmmm...interesting. A GABA analogue, pregabalin, helps me in a similar way. I too am having severe problems with drive and motivation. I am now combining a higher dose of carbamazapine and 225mg's of venlafaxine. I am lucky that my pdoc is keeping me on clonazapam. I *don't* know if this is going to cause major akathisia or/and profuse sweating and anxiety. I hope the carbamazapine offsets that, as it seems to have in the past.
Like you, I have an on/off relationship with venlafaxine. All's we can do is try, right? IF it doesn't work out, I may go with moclobemide. The thing is, moclobemide doesn't do much for my anxiety, and in fact, boots it up a notch, just like Effexor. The only thing is, moclobemide doesn't have as much of the "cheese" effect as the traditional MAOI's.
So....I wish us both luck... :)
