It's probably not beneficial to "trust nobody" but at the same time, it's not beneficial to trust any one individual too much. Gather a range of opinions and perspectives, including your own.
Doctors are only a reflection of the totality of medical information available at this time. There is so much we don't know about the brain, and hence it is very important to respect the unknown. The unknown is much greater than the known.
