As I see it, people who can't trust have psychological issues, the most severe of which is probably paranoid personality disorder. Sure, not trusting helps you avoid getting betrayed or "back-stabbed", but trusting (having faith) feels good and its absence exposes you to pessimism and pathological doubt. Moreover, if you can't trust anyone else, you have to do everything yourself, which is not only a lot of work, but also means you can't get far because you cannot collaborate with others.
