ok. obviously, I am -not- any sort of expert, so...there's that.
couple things...antidepressants are known to boost neuroleptic blood levels. i actually skimmed over a brief review of antidepressants in schizophrenia. the authors noted, on the one hand, that some studies failed to show a benefit. then, they brought up the increased blood levels of neuroleptics, and came to the conclusion that the antidepressants are worthwhile in schizophrenia. psychiatry...don't get it.
so, what I'm thinking is that you're not only tapering the antidepressants; you're also altering your tranquilizer blood levels. the 5-htp...to me, as a supplements fan, might actually be a less toxic, possibly even beneficial, approach to managing mood.
but I'm not an expert. effexor discontinuation, in particular, is notoriously difficult for people. that, by itself, could cause some discontinuation symptoms.
is it dangerous? again: not an expert. since you live in one of those genuinely civilized nations that has made healthcare available for everyone, perhaps you should talk to a doctor (maybe not a psychiatrist?) about what's going on in your situation. just a thought. :-)
