In reply to Bupropione as needed for cognitive boost?, posted by Lamdage22 on February 22, 2020, at 1:39:00
wellbutrin? yes. it will improve some cognitive functions, but its a weak dopmaine reptake inhibitor, its more on norepinephrine uptake. I took wellbutrin ih high school, that was first antidepressant i ever took, one the reasons, both for depression and ADHD symptoms. I took adderall in high school and i told my psychiatrist about wellbutrin, he said yes, it used as an addon to a stimulant.
It took about 2-3 weeks to start working, but after that time, i was in ISS, i hated going to classes because people didn't like, i would skip classes so won't have to deal with aggression from people, i got caught i was in hallway sitting down reading over homework assignments, they put me ISS lol, but when i was in there, the work you have do, i started noticing i was more awake and motivated to do the work, when i ran cross country would show up at 5:30am andd do runs all over the school grounds, then class. I took the wellbutrin and ... you know adderall makes you kinda motivated to do things, wellbutrin did something similar but i wasn't as potent, but i remember during the day, feeling it release again and i was activated and in a better mood.
But anxiety is a big things with bupropion, i actually stopped taking it because, i went up the highest dose of it, 450mg, it was working, i started noticing i could not take naps during the day, and everywhere i went, even have fun, i would have this edgy, almost dread feeling of slight anxiety. It's due to the norepinephrine increase.
In medical research, they found that large doses of bupropion had a slight psychostimulant effect like methylphenidate, doses like high doses, above the recommended, but the thing is need to know, too high dose of wellbutrin can cause seizures, that's one of the reasons i got off it. Sitting at denny's having lunch, i took 650 mg XL form, i sat there and just could feel this weird, feeling coming on. I had deal with it all day. Terrible.
But still definitely ask your doctor, its not like a ADD meds, but its similar and its also antidepressant. Watch out for anxiety, and work with the dose. You should be fine.
