There are some limits to what the tests can tell you. They are telling you how to metabolize a certain drug, but they cannot tell you how that drug affects you condition.
For example, you might metabolize say, paxil really slowly. This doesn't necessarily mean that paxil won't hit the right targets in your brain. It may just mean that you respond to a much lower dose than other people.
To me, the metabolic parameters have more influence on effective dose, rather than effective drug.
But, these things are in their infancy.
Where the test may be more informative, is where a drug has an active metabolite. You may get a better idea of which drug (the parent, or the metabolite) is more present in your system.
