As an alternative, you might try adding omega-3 (if you haven't already tried it). Magnesium can also help with some instability symptoms. Folic acid too, has been shown to augment mood stabilizers in terms of depression and mania.
As far as mood stabilizers, there all the other antipsychotics (have you tried abilify?), and all the other anticonvulsants. I don't know if you want to combine two anticonvulsants.
A drug like perphenazine (older antipsychotic, but similar to Seroquel in terms of helping anxiety and sleep) might help for stability.
Melatonin can help some people with bipolar symptoms, especially if sleep is an issue.
Which is the bigger issue, depression, mania, or just instability?
