I don't know what "PI" means.
A few thoughts:
1. Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) feels "smoother" than Ritalin (methylphenidate) to many people. Perhaps more importantly for you, people report that the "let-down" is more gradual. My own experience with Focalin falls in line with these observations.
2. Desipramine is an old tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) that has been used quite often for ADD / ADHD, especially in adults. Since it has a longer half-life that remains stable throughout the day, there is no let down.3. I don't see it prescribed that often, but Straterra (atomoxetine), is approved for the treatment of ADD. I saw it work wonders for someone.
* Neither desipramine nor Straterra act like stimulants pharmacologically. They inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine without increasing its release (as does amphetamine). Neither affect dopamine directly.
