It's not a good idea to quit clonazepam cold turkey. I tried this with lorazepam, and couldn't handle it. If your San Francisco doctor won't phone in a prescription for you, find a doctor in Colorado Springs, maybe a psychiatrist. The best way to get off of benzos is to taper them. It took me four months to complete my benzo taper. (I did a crossover from lorazepam to diazepam (Valium) halfway through my taper.) Diazepam has a very long half-life, so it's the easiest benzo to taper. Clonazepam has a pretty long half-life, so many people are able to taper it successfully, but some have to do a crossover to diazepam.
The Ashton Manual has lots of good advice on tapering benzos.
