Metafolin, a more potent form of folic acid, might be worth a try. So might P5P, an activated, more potent form of vitamin B6.

A recent study found that light therapy can be an effective treatment for nonseasonal depression:

If your mother-in-law hasn't had her thyroid checked, she should have this done. Does she snore? If so, has she ever had a sleep study done? Fifty percent of people who snore have sleep apnea, which can cause depression.
