My manias - although rare - completely disappear very quickly. Depakote also has some anti-anxiety properties. For me, I need 1000-1500 mg/day to treat mania. However, my manias are severe, and represent an atypical presentation of bipolar I disorder.
You should be aware that some people - not all - experience some residual depression with Depakote. Hopefully, this will be offset by Geodon.
It is a good idea to have multiple blood tests for the first 6 months to screen for elevated liver enzymes. Thereafter, you can go twice a year.
If for some reason Lamictal is chosen for its antidepressant properties, you MUST use only 1/2 the usual dosage when it is combined with Depakote.
Good luck.
