I think some people do get better on regular non-addictive medications.
I think that other people have addictive personalities (myself included) and our brains just get bored and depressed when things are normal.
I know for myself, if I don't feel really good, I get depressed. I follow the things that make me feel good. I tend to take risks that lead to reward. Some people's brains are wired like that and the SSRI just doesn't replace the animal spirits that these people are used to feeling good from.
