I haven't heard anything about not using tape, and have used some tape on occasion around the edges to secure a patch that seemed not to be securely in place.
I notice that the manufacturer suggests that if a patch falls off, you should replace it, rather than reattaching the old patch; however this is different from using a little tape at the edges before it falls off.
I"m not sure if you pharmacist is correct; however if you do cover the entire patch, tegaderm probably is a good way to do it. I would definitely buy the online tape rather than in the drugstore. If it's much more reasonable in price and you're buying from a reputable seller, it seems just as likely to be good. But it always makes sense to ask your doctor about the occlusion issue. I saw nothing about it in a brief google search, but doctors do have a lot of information you can't get on the internet.
I personally think, based on what I read a few years ago when emsam was certified by the FDA, that your doctor is being awfully cautious. I would listen to her, but also go with your experience -- but always be careful.
But again, I"m not a doctor, just someone who has used emsam-- and it's important to note that everyone is somewhat different.
