5mg Lexapro is a sensible starting dose for anyone who is known to be sensitive to the side effects of SSRIs, or anyone who hasn't taken an SSRI before (and therefore the risk of side effects is unknown)... but 5mg isn't usually an optimal dose. I suggest increasing to 10mg/day, assuming you are tolerating it well. If you find 10mg makes you feel too numb, you could decrease back to 5mg for a couple of weeks and then stop, in order to try a non-SSRI antidepressant instead.
