Nardil (phenelzine) and Parnate (tranylcypromine) tend to be more effective antidepressants than moclobemide. Marplan (isocarboxazid) hasn't been studied as extensively as Nardil and Parnate have. Selegiline, I think, is also likely to be less effective than Nardil and Parnate.
It's my understanding that only moclobemide (which is technically a "RIMA") and low-dose selegiline can be taken without following a restricted diet. With all of the other MAOIs, following a restricted diet is advised.
