When I first started taking LDN a few years ago, I only took it at bedtime (that's what most people recommend). I took 3 mg. The main side effects were difficulty falling asleep and vivid dreams. When I tried taking higher doses, I had even more difficulty falling asleep. Later, I read that some people take it in the morning and it works just as well and doesn't have the sleep-associated side effects of taking it at bedtime. So I started taking it in the morning, and I was able to tolerate the maximum dose of 4.5 mg and it didn't interfere with my sleep.
