Yes, but it's not edema. It's a matter of biased observation, IMHO.

I suspect that your bowels had less in them, and you allowed yourself to dehydrate. You temporarily lost weight, that upon eating and fluid intake, you regained.

You're a chemist. When you fast, your body switches over to beta-oxidation of fatty acids as its primary source of energy. For each two carbon unit (acetyl co-A) cleaved off a fatty acid, one molecule of water is consumed. Your fluid intake must increase when you are fasting, or you will dehydrate. Every cell burning fat will be at a negative water balance. And each one will plump up again when you have enough fluids available.

> What can I do to make this go away? I bought some diuertic tea but it's not working.

You don't. You're paying too much attention to a transient event. Taking diuretic tea will only dehydrate you once more, unless you're already dehydrated, in which case it won't work (if by "working" you mean you didn't see your body mass drop following intake).

> OK, just to make sure this is meds related. Can stopping Risperdal cause this too?

I doubt it.

> I hate this edema so much! It's like I got fat immediately!

You don't have edema. You are paying too much attention to your body image.

If you want to find out if fasting works for you, go ahead and fast for two days every week, for a month. Weigh yourself after a satisfying meal before you begin your first fast. And weigh yourself again after a satisfying meal, upon two days of normal eating at the end of the month. You'll be comparing apples to apples. If you can't wait a month to weigh yourself again, I think it would indicate an unhealthy obsession about your weight.

You should also know that episodic fasting causes your adipocytes (fat storage tissue) to more readily store fat. It's an adaptive response to the unavailablilty of food. You need to be able to control your food intake during your eating periods, so as to not overeat in compensation of the increased hunger mediated by adipocyte hormone release.
