In reply to Zyprexa withdrawal inc. Remeron - BIG MESS!, posted by wornout2 on September 18, 2011, at 2:50:49
Your story is very common and familiar so I can relate and I'm sure others can too. You aren't alone in the bizarre stuff. Unfortunately these meds are a lot harder to get off than most doctors will admit. Probably because they've never felt it themselves.
Whenever I've been in your shoes, too many times, I had only two ways out....bear with it until it goes away which could be a few weeks to a couple months....or get back on the med at a very low dose and then resume weaning off of it again, except this time in much smaller steps and a longer period of time. It's easy to make customized sizes of doses so you can whittle down in tiny steps. That way the brain has a chance to gradually adjust in small increments, bypassing the worst traumatic stuff.
If you are fearful of the valium thing, there are some plant medicines that can help. Among them are Valerian, Skullcap, Lemon Balm, and Passionflower. Try them one at a time first to see what they feel like and then combine 2 or 3. Combinations of them are usually the norm when treating with them.
My zyprexa withdrawals seriously took maybe 3 months to be mostly under control but 6 months to be totally gone. But even then, with antipsychotics, there could be permanent weirdness that never goes completely away.
Remeron can be cut, split, broken, crushed, whatever, to make small doses. In my experience I had to wean off of it in about 1/2mg steps. Getting from 15mg to 7.5mg wasn't too hard, but getting from 5mg to 0 was. It took me a while but I did it slow and patient in small steps.
On one hand our psych meds and doctors can save lives and improve quality of life. But each person is an experiment, and sometimes the experiments don't turn out well. On the other hand they can add to existing problems or create new ones. It's a tough game. In any case, getting off the meds as fast as you did was destined for problems. I hope it gets better for you soon! Hang in there. Do what you think is right.
