Zyprexa withdrawal inc. Remeron - BIG MESS!

Posted by wornout2 on September 18, 2011, at 2:50:49

Oh dear - I have been trawling thru the internet trying to sort out just what is causing my symptoms & now I am just even more worried & confused. Really hope to get some informed feedback here.

2 months ago I stopped Zyprexa cold turkey as it was discovered that it had been causing me acutely painful muscle spasm for 6 months. I had been on it on a low dose of 2.5mg for 1 year.

I seemed to go fine except for insomnia. So after a couple of weeks I found The Road Back program of supplements & stuck to it. But after about 6 weeks I was still having to use Valium too often for sleep. I freaked out that I was close to becoming dependent on Valium so I ran to the doctor & he gave me Remeron.

It hurt my head & was not consistent with the sleep but I stuck with it for 2 weeks until I realized that my blood pressure was going way too high & my heart was going too fast. So the doctor agreed that I should taper it off quickly.

I have been off it for 2 days but I am still stuck with the high blood pressure (170/99) & tachy heart plus now I have developed a Dry Mouth (Xerostomia). I have found on the internet that these can be symptoms of Cholinergic rebound. I also found that Remeron has a modest anticholinergic effect.

So what I am thinking is that the Remeron has tripped my already sensitive brain receptors into an even more unbalanced state. And then I found that it may not be good to use anti-cholinergic medicines to counter the rebound if you are withdrawing from Zyprexa. Oh brother!

I just really wonder how long it may take my poor old brain to rebalance itself again. I am continuing to take the Road Back supplements as I really do feel they have saved me from a LOT of other bad symptoms - I am sure they will help again. But it's just not knowing how long that worries me. Plus I am back to having to use Valium to get any sleep - wish I had never gone to the doctor's but then again I was trying to avoid a Valium addiction - what a tangled web it all is.
