Read that PDF file posted by (someone?). It is really good. The MAOI diet really isn't that hard. You're not going to die from eating a slice of pepperoni pizza. Most foods are fine. Tuna, almost all vegetables except fava beans (and you have to eat a lot to get enough tyramine to cause a problem and who eats fava beans anyway) and sauerkraut (again, you have to have a lot and who eats sauerkraut except for a small amount in a Reuben?) all this stuff is fine. It's not complicated. Avoid large quantities of aged cheese (more than an ounce). Avoid salami and pepperoni in large quantities ( a slice of pepperoni pizza will not kill you). Avoid red wine and draft beer. Other than that, there's not much to worry about. Soy sauce -- don't have more than a quarter cup, but when would you? Avoid miso soup. Don't stress. I have hardly changed my diet at all since I started parnate two years ago. I am a bit more conscious of limiting cheddar cheese as a snack and blue cheese on salads and parmesan on pasta. But I haven't given these up entirely because small portions don't contain large amounts of tyramine.
When I started on parnate, I said to my p-doc, well I could just get a bottle of chianti and some salami and cheese and check out. He says, it doesn't work like that. These are cautions, not absolutes. If they were absolutes, nobody would ever precscribe MAOIs.
