hi folks,
new to this site. diagnosed with anxious depression for many years. been on various AD's for some time. SSRI's helped a little but produced in me an unpleasant serotonin-syndrome type rigidity and internal tension/anxiety. my Pdoc theorized i have an unusual sensitivity to SSRI's. anyway, currently on a very low dose of wellbutrin XL (150mg) once daily and then inositol in the evening before bed.
my experience with inositol has been very positive. i've tried between 6-12 grams in a tall glass of water right before bed. been doing this for about 2 months. after drinking the inositol/water, i read in bed for a bit till i feel drowsy, then i close book, turn out the light and pleasantly drift off to sleep.
my sleep seems sound, restful. i've not noticed unusual dreams nor do i feel drugged or groggy in the AM. i am able to wake when i want to or when i need to but also able to sleep in when i want to.
i've not noticed any unpleasant side effects from inositol after the first few days (a little loose stool at first). I feel more calm during the day. less prone to anxiousness and better able to relax and enjoy myself and others.
as a sleep aid, i'd recommend it for sure. it might even be an alternative to discuss with your Pdoc for those of you who find that SSRI's produce in you a kind of counter-intuitive restlessness/anxiety/tension.
I'm not an expert on supplements or inositol or anything else. i have read that inositol does not lead to toxicity as it's highly water-soluble. i suppose that the excess is simply excreted.
one caveat. I'm not sure if this is the inositol or the wellbutrin. i find i get rather pleasantly buzzed after one or two alcoholic drinks. this seems to happen a little sooner than it used to.
sorry for the long post. just wanted to share this experience in the hopes someone else might benefit.
good luck to everyone
