MtDew,
I don't see any problem with being pushed past one's envelope a bit. I've been required to do this many times. I think it's good practice.
The veterans coming back are what have really helped focus attention on what is a mysterious syndrome. That medicine
doesn't have the tools to deal is one thing. I don't expect miracles. But I am glad that the caseloads coming in have prompted new questions and new research. That's progress. On a personal level, I prefer that a doctor think something like, "How very curious. That woman can actually feel ill at the half the dose of flexeril that I regularly hand out to all my patients. Maybe there is another medication or approach that would be of
benefit?"I have also encountered, (highly condensed), "Now you're being ridiculous! All my patients take twice as much and in fact I have some abusing it! Say, you aren't abusing it, are you? Hmmmmm. Well I guess you are just too
sensitive to take medication. See me in six months."The two attitudes elicit different
results. Personally, I look for the
curiousity factor in a provider. That's usually a sign of a potentially good working relationship. If it were not for doctors and nurses plus other providers and medical intervention, I'd be dead, so I hope I do not sound ungrateful.
