NRI - norepinephrine/noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor. reboxetine, attomoxatine, notriptaline, desipramine. the last two are called 'secondary TCAs' too, based on their chemical structure.
NRIs can increase blood pressure, but only a limited amount. They reduce the chance of hypertensive crisis (the reason you shouldn't eat certain foods in the first place) by blocking entry of tyramine through the uptake pump thingie.
I wanted to take one, but couldn't find a doctor to Rx the combo and ended up just discontinuing the MAOI since my depression was gone. for most people, NRIs seem a bit less effective than stimulants for ADHD symptoms, but they do help. And they are a lot safer with MAOIs. You can think of it as a 'risk' with the maoi, but not taking it is the risk. I had a hypertensive crisis when the only thing i ate all day was an apple. The unsaftey is from reports of 'TCAs' causing problems, but this was serotonergic TCAs causing serotonin syndrome. Nortriptaline should prvent serotonin syndrome, actually.
