Diagnosis isn't very useful in psychiatry. Only bad psychiatrists (usually the younger ones...the male ones more than the female ones) look at your diagnosis and then try to make up a treatment plan; that approach only works with real illness, like cancer.
The best you can hope for from psych drugs is a reduction in certain symptoms. So, if you're feeling slowed down and you gain weight during your "depression," maybe something stimulating (possibly Ritalin or an amphetamine) could be helpful. If your problem is agitation, try a sedating antidepressant, low-dose neuroleptic, or benzo..maybe even a "mood stabilizing" anti-convulsant. If you're like most mental patients, you'll end up on a combo of drugs (like wellbutrin+celexa, for instance).
