evenintherain - I actually am having to get off of parnate b/c I had a spontaneous hypertensive crisis about one weeek ago--meaning that it wasn't caused by food or drug interactions. it was just sort of out of nowhere. my bp shot up from about 90/60 to about 200/120. worst pain i have ever felt in my life. was rushed to the er where they did tests to make sure i didn't have a bleed in my brain. i had been on 20 mg for about 2 days at that point.
here's the part that's actually responsive to your question--after that episode i went back down to 15mg and started taking 5mg 3 times per day (instead of 10 and then 5) and found that my hypotension actually resolved. and i'm sleeping better now too.
anyway, after talking to my dr more, going over what i had eaten that day, and determining that i hadn't eaten anything on the "forbidden" list, he basically said that if i'm having them spontaneously, then there's nothing i can do to avoid them, so he's taking me off parnate. i'm really sad b/c this is the best i've felt in over 10 years. (maybe i should start a new post about this)
