Ritalin is chemically related to amphetamines but produces less CNS arousal than mental stimulation, a cup of coffee raises BP more than Ritalin.The PDR says "Ritalin restores mental and physical activities to normal or near normal levels.......induces alertness a brighter mental outlook and improved psychomotor performance-a specific recommendation for CF and apathy" it was also suggested for use in helping people recover from general anaesthesia-when it was available in parenteral form.
Called a 'mild stimulant' Ritalin is known to be just as good as Dexedrine. Comparison tests of both show Ritalin to be superior MG for MG in it's ability to excite mental faculties.
It is NOT technically an amphetamine but shares a similar backbone. It's mode of action shows it is closer to Cocaine than amphet.
Ritalin:-Psychostimulant
-DA reuptake inhibitor
-NE reuptake inhibitor
-NE release
Cocaine Hcl:-Psychostimulant
-DA reuptake inhibitor
-NE reuptake inhibitor
-NE release
D-amphetamine:-Psychostimulant
-DA release ++
-NE release +++
-DA reuptake inhibitor+
-NE reuptake inhibitor+
