I think the sad part is that there is remarkably little *data* to suggest that it is effective as a mood stabilizer. I remember reading the GSK trial registry and seeing that something like 10 trials had been done in mood disorders and only one was positive - of course this was the study that was broadcast across every clinical psychiatry website.
