> I admit I'm a newbie, but no younster in taking antidepressants, more than 90% of my life, so ask me about a med I'll tell you not just the receptors but also an experience. I had started this thread in another forum, I thought it was a good crowd, everyone came with opinions and it became all about personal insults, so I quit after a week. I've been reading psycho-babble for yrs now,Do Antidepressants extend lifespan? -----Theoretically increasing neurotrans in hypothalamus should >There is already data that Selegiline (atleast 25%) and Mianserin (30%), Mirtazapine and Cyproheptadine do so(20-30%). So serotonin antagonists?? Often things that enhance lifespan are antidepressive. Metformin and Phenytoin for example repair atrophy. Tianeptine works well too, it's not tested for lifespan. Lithium (+46% ) increases BDNF, Bcl-2(against apoptosis) and does many other things .Even very low doses work Sadly I read in a site that SSRIs decrease lifespan, I hope it's false, after all we are no mice. If you feel +ve or -ve about a drug let's share it.
I think only certain antidepressants prolong life span. Personally I think SSRI's have the potential to decrease lifespan due to negative metabolic effects. SSRI's can and do:Increase cortisol(Often bad)
Decrease melatonin(bad)
Decrease testosterone(bad)
Decrease thyroid hormone(bad)
Decrease growth hormone(bad)Most of the antidepressants cited for increased lifespan are usually pro dopamine drugs where as SSRI's are anti-dopamine drugs.
I'm not gonna say that they decrease lifespan, but in my own personal opinon they have significant potential to cause premature aging.
This is my opinion and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.
