Not exactly what you are asking, but it turns out that autoimmune disorders show up in aobut 45% of persons with psychiatric disorders, 30% in people with shizophrenia. These are, of course, just correlations right now; causation has yet to be established.

Anyway--in Scientific American:

"Although the case is strongest for schizophrenia, prenatal infections with rubella and several types of herpes have been linked less conclusively with psychiatric disorders, including autism, bipolar disorder and even Alzheimers disease."

--"Infected with Insanity," Scientific American (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=infected-with-insanity)

A graph describing one physician's theory (Dr. Bransfield) of how environmental insults + stress = mental illness:

A layperson's article on schizophrenia and autoimmune disorders (I know you are asking about depression and anxiety, but as I said, estimates are that 45% of persons with pyschiatric disorders of all types have an autoimmune disease):

Now--if only doctors would routinely screen those of us with mental illness. I understand that may be cost prohibitive, but maybe less so than spending tons of money on psychiatric care (my last bill was $60,000 for inpatient--and because I had already met my out of pocket maximum, I paid very little of that bill myself).

> I want to know EVERYTHING you know about this subject. How conditions like undiagnosed Bartonella,Lyme etc. you name it, play a part in depression, anxiety etc.---The right way to go about treatments and so on.---I realise it's a detailed topic, and there are also alot of skeptics,I have my own doubts too. Please note this is the last thread I'm posting on this subject.I posted it because someone here recommended a new thread be started on it.Also know that I am in no way putting down psychiatric medications because I've had great success in the 'past' with Paxil etc.Any and all responses are always much appreciated.
