Well, aren't all the SSRIs serotonin reuptake inhibitors? Why then would one work great for someone while all the others don't?

No two meds do the same thing. Even generic versions of the same exact med don't behave the same. The primitive way we view these meds is only a tiny fraction of what they actually do, most of which we don't know.

For example, without details, Med A will increase serotonin in the brain stem and cortex. Med B will increase serotonin in the cortex and mid brain. Med C will increase serotonin globally. All of them increase serotonin in different regions of the brain depending on the size of the dose. Ya know? In addition, they each have their own fingerprint in turning a variety of genes up and turning a variety of genes down, and they interact with the hormone system and the immune system, all of which tie into the overall wellness or badness felt by the user. It just aint that simple to say a drug does this or that in terms of which neurotransmitter it prevents the reuptake of.
