I'm going to try to make this short... I was stable on 90mg Nardil and 1mg xanax as needed for two entire years... with an excellent job and rather excellent life.
I took a job in another state, and decided I'd had enough of the Nardil weight gain, switched to Parnate and had a (depending on perspective) hypomanic or manic breakdown... lost my job, my health insurance, came back to California and am now staying (to my shock) in a "social rehabilitation facility" for people with mental illness, on the SF county mental health system, and frustrated as all hell.
So, we finally got me back on Nardil, but only at 60mg b.i.d. and no more Xanax. The doctor here re-added Lamictal (which, admittedly, given my Cyclothymic diagnosis, I should have never stopped taking...) but refuses to raise my Nardil to 90mg/day for a few weeks.
Depression oscillates between severe and not quite as severe, but still severe.
I am just hoping Nardil works again--if I get up to that 90 and after a few weeks it's a no-go, I am left with Marplan and the cyclics. (SSRIs only worked once for me, and yes, I've tried most of them, Wellbutrin, etc - with little or no effect.)
Also would love to try adding Deplin, but it appears not to be formulary for the system here.
Boy, did my life fall apart--my advice to anyone with anything in the bipolar spectrum is to NEVER go off your mood stabilizer; my reason was that I didn't think it was doing anything.
Anyone on Marplan after a Nardil-poopout?
