Seroquel was a lifesaver for my son. However, he is bi-polar 1 and his "episodes" are angry to put it mildly. So in that sense, it does have an excellent calming effect.
As for weight gain, I'd call it neutral. He gained a lot of wieght on abilify and respirdal, its coming off slowly on Seroquel. He takes 300mg day. Completely controls the worst of his bi-polar.
